Why this website?

This website is a campaign launched by the Mideast Youth team in order to fight forced prostitution in the Middle East, North Africa, and Asia by making people aware through research that a horrible reality exists in our part of the world. A reality that often goes unnoticed or ignored due to lack of resources and activism.

We won’t be so naive as to assume that we can actually stop this from happening, but what we can do is initiate this small network to serve as a source of information regarding forced prostitution, an issue that rarely ever makes it through the filters of mainstream media outlets and news services, especially in our region. Our ongoing conflicts here in the Middle East go beyond politics and religion. There are many things that the majority of civilians, including government officials, are simply not aware of, and these are things that our media plays little to no attention to, making such issues seem acceptable or easy to dismiss as minor problems.

Forced prostitution is a major crime against humanity. However, even within established activist networks, where most of the time is being spent speaking of other horrific domestic issues, such as war crimes or political prisoners, no attention is being paid to our other fellow human beings who are suffering through sexual terrorism.

This network is dedicated to those who never had the chance to share their stories in an effort to make people aware of this horrible reality which we wish to fight. It’s dedicated to the many young men and women who are currently imprisoned and are being used as sexual objects. It’s painful knowing that as we write this, and while we do our best to be as aware and well informed as possible, the number of victims of sexual terrorism is still increasing to the point where we can hardly track recent cases. However, we refuse to sit back and dismiss this as an inevitable issue. We simply don’t accept this situation and we will do our best to battle it.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with the many victims of this horrid crime. We will do our best to help them and their families.
